I got me a 460 out of a 1979 Ford RV, and opened it up when I got it home. The pistons were marked "0.01" on the top. Sure enough, I took it to the machine shop and it had been bored out 0.01. The bores are still good. I planned on upgrading to forged, but does anybody make pistons this size?
I have never heard of them, and didn't see any pistons that size on summit's website. 4.360" is the standard bore size. Therefore, if yours are truly 0.01 over, they would measure 4.370". I was always told 0.030" over was the smallest increment overbore possible. Not sure if this is true, but I went with that on mine.
I just got back from the machine shop today. This shop is 30 miles from where I live, but it is the one that everyone around here goes to. The owner told me he has never seen .010 over pistons until mine came in. I looked all over the internet and didn't find anything that size. I'm going to get some .03 over forged pistons. This engine is going into my jet boat.
Not sure what type of build a jet boat needs, but I would definitely put a straight up cam timing set in it when you do a rebuild. A cam swap will go a long way, but I don't know what type of grind would be a good fit for that.
