Hey all, today the truck struggled to start after filling up, even harder the next time, and now it's in my driveway dead and I have a job at work that requires me to go to Michigan next week that I can't afford to lose. On to the issue...
When cranking, my icp won't go above 400psi now, and I understand I need Atleast 500 to fire off. I'm mechanically inclined but new to diesels, so don't be afraid to dumb it down...can't be cocky when your learning.
Where should I start my troubleshooting?
Many thanks in advance guys, this one's happening at a really bad time haha..
Please pardon my ignorance, but how specifically?
I watched a video showing how to get access to it from underneath, driverside but I can't for the life of me see it or get my hand up there.
The good news is it's an 03' You don't have stand pipes and dummy plugs or an stc fitting they are generally solid under the valve covers. Bad news is they have a weaker high pressure oil pump. Which is more than likely your problem. Without doing an air test it's hard to confirm. You may have to do take some things off to get to the icp if you can't wiggle in there.
Well got the thing diagnosed today..
Went to the dealership for a 100 dollar diagnosis. They came back with bad stand pipe connectors and HPOP line is also bad. They want just over 2000 to fix it.
How does this sit with you guy? I was surprised when they said stand pipe....it also threw me off that they supposedly tore it down this far for a 100 dollar diagnose and reassembled everything, shoot that's the hard part!
I'm tight on time, but also tight on cash, anyone done this repair before themselves? I'm curious how difficult it would be as a diy project.

For 2k the dealership has to be replacing the HPOP.

If you go straight in after the pump, you can do it in a full day, maybe a day and a half. Don't be afraid to jump in and do it, lots of people here will help walk you through the process.
Go to youtube and watch a few videos on how to do the job. You can save a lot of money but it will take a bit longer for you to do it for the first time.
Well, I hopefully leave for Michigan in the next couple days and don't have time to dick around with it, so I'm letting the shop do the work to the tune of 1862 plus tax, guy says turnaround will be by tomorrow night.
Your saying that they are replacing the STC fitting? $2000 include a new pump?
No new pump.
Stand pipe connectors, HPOP pipe and all associated o rings.
I've never done business with them before other than re flashes and things as such, so I'm not a regular face to them. I feel slightly hosed, but I need the truck back for work.
UPDATE: I lost the job that involved driving to Michigan, my coworker told my boss about the truck and handed it off to someone else.....great.
the 03' doesn't have the common STC fittings you read in most posts that pertain to leaks and no-starts. I also believe there are no stand pipes and dummy plugs. If they are replacing the pipes, that requires a tranny pull... if i'm thinking straight... maybe not?
What was the ICP reading they reported to you as "low" and the reason for the pipes replacements? Someone sit down with you and explain exactly what needed done and why?
Not trying to be nosy... just educated.... so we don't read about another "My Dealer did this"!!???
