Does the P242A code typically result in a "Stop Safely Now" shut down situation? I've done a search and can't really fine anything definitive.
Popped up yesterday, but have been driving around without issue. I even took a horse to the vet (running 70 on the freeway) and had no issues (I did stay in the right lane whenever possible, just in case). So maybe the update did fix that after all?
Going to clear the code today and see if it pops up again before I head to the dealership. Or am I pushing my luck?
If I remember vloney correctly, #3 would shut down the truck. Since yours has continued running, this adds to the list of those with sensor failures and it's been nothing more than an annoyance instead of a pre flash tow truck trip. Do you have the 14E03 recall firmware?
Unfortunately dealer can't do much with no code/cleared code, but yes it is likely to happen again and leave you stranded. If you have ability to change sensors you should get a spare and carry a wrench. Murphy's law dictates that it will happen when your hauling horses...

Yes, they updated it per the recall last time I was in for an oil change.
Has this popped up again since you cleared it? How many miles are on your truck? Come back and tell us if you decide to have your dealer diagnose.
Crystal
We cleared it last night and no, so far it has not reappeared. To my way of thinking, if it's cleared, and the conditions present themselves again (i.e. the test fails when after 10 minutes of driving, following an 8-hour soak, the EGT sensor does not indicate a temperature increase of 27°F), then the code will reappear.
Or is it a one time only thing?
If not, could it just have been a flaky read that one time?
And if THAT'S the case, how many people have replaced perfectly good sensors that just had an oops moment?
How do you tell if a sensor is truly bad?
Inquiring minds want to know........
My truck has 79K miles on it. I'll post back if anything happens.
