EGT sensor shut down question

I am award of the problem. And hope to be one of the majority that never has to deal with the issue.

But, if the problem were to happen and the code thrown could it be as easy as to pull over. And if you had a code reader that could clear code.

Could you simply clear the code and be on your way?

If so, how far would you get before the code reappeared and you had to repeat the read and clear the code again.

I know there are some people on here that carry an extra sensor and the code reader/clearer. If the symptom shows up they pull over change the sensor clear the code and go on their way. It doesn't take long to replace the part but it does take longer than what I would want to spend on the side of the road under the truck changing it. Sometimes you may not have the luxury of running in limp mode to the next off ramp and pulling into a parking lot or some other safe location.

There's a video of a Ford tech changing the sensor, it frozen of course and hes got the exhaust off the truck and still having issues. road side replacement may or may not be an option. IMHO.

Does the sensor shut down issue seem to be related more towards trucks that are driven in town and city traffic rather than trucks driven more at highway speed?

Is it a matter of exhaust soot build up or actual high temps that are triggering the CPU?

It is a sensor giving a bad reading. Does not matter in town or hwy trucks if it is a reading issue.

This would be something that you could potential clear and limp it home..but once bad, always bad.

I appreciate the feedback.

I guess this will be a good reason to keep the 800 roadside assistance number on my cell phone memory.

Medical insurance premiums paid on time.

And carry at all times, cause you just never know where the road may take you or the truck may leave you......LOL!!!!
