About 18 months ago, my 99 Explorer had the dreaded chirp sound. We were out of town and managed to make it home. Upon return, we could not get the sound to reappear.
I've had the rig to the mechanic a couple times for CELs and rough running, but it has not displayed the P0340 code that is supposed to indicate the cam sensor malfunction.
Does this code ALWAYS appear? In the absence of it, should I be in the clear? Or could the problem exist even in the absence of the code?
Thanks!
