September is here
Well, I guess mechanics need to eat too.. LOL
It's gonna be a beautiful day today.... We'll kick things off with a pot of fresh coffee and a pile of blueberry bagels... Rounding out the wake up treats is a plate of warm Danish..
Come by and grab yourself some!
A friend let me know that KTM has a demo event at the motorcycle dealer in Cambridge. Probably going to swing by and take a test ride or two. I've been riding the Wee Star for three years now, and planning on getting something different in the spring. Never even glanced at the KTM brand before, but the Duke looks interesting.
Must have one heckuva counter balancer to keep it from becoming a paint shaker... 690cc one-lunger will have some good grunt too.
I have a Victory V92C and a couple EV sport bikes that I will be working on next year..
Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
Most fun bike I've had was easily the B-King. Sold that one in '12 and was going to go bike-less for a year or so. Then my coworker needed money and sold me his old V-star for $1,500. Thought I'd hate it, but I really don't, so I've held onto it for longer than I thought I would. About time for this to head up the road so I can get something with at least a little power. Most string trimmers make more power than this old 650!
Now off too football game number 1 for the season.
Had a fantastic morning at Larson's Cycle at the demo ride. We went in groups of around 10, and the lead and trail riders were employees of the motorcycle shop. The runs were around 15 miles each.
Was too late for one of the 690s in the first ride, so I took a 390. Was really amazed by that bike, I've never ridden a 300 lb bike that moves like that. Far more power than I expected, and it would very easily hit super-legal speeds.
Next I got to try the 690 Duke. It did vibrate when applying power at low RPMs, but I was impressed with how usable the power band was. Twice at the beginning of the ride I pulled the front end off the ground in first gear unintentionally.
My big gripe with the Dukes was the riding position made the wind want to suck your helmet off at highway speeds. So my third and final run was on their flagship 1290 Adventure. Extremely impressive machine. It had tons of usable power, good ergonomics, an amazing array of features, and a windscreen that was perfectly set up. If I had $21K to drop on a bike I probably wouldn't give it a second thought.
My old BMW K100RT had a fairing and windshield configuration that would cause the wind to buffet the heck out of your helmet below 80 mph. I put a K100LT windshield on it which was 3" taller and it made all the difference in the world..
