i have a 1994 f250 with the 7,3 idi turbo the other day my od light started flashing and it went into limp mode so i came back home and went to troubleshooting it i used the wire to send the pcm into test mode to do a key on engine off test but my service engine light has quit working i checked the fuse bulb wiring it's all good so i tried to get the codes with my test light under the hood but it didn't work either and i tried the analog volt meter and it didn't work if i bought one of the obd1 code readers do you think i could get the codes or will i be flushing money down the toilet? i have just about decided i have a pcm down.but my glow plugs and all my other gauges work as they are suppose to.any help sure would be app.

welcome to FTE.

the IDI does not have a PCM like the other trucks do, it is a mechanical engine. the service engine light will only come on if oil pressure is low, or coolant temp is high. not sure if it works with the trans though, i never had an auto overdrive trans in my trucks.

does your tach and speedometer work? if either of those stop working the trans will go into limp mode.

These trucks have 2 lights that get mistaken for each other, one is an engine light that comes on with low oil pressure or high coolant temperature, the other is the check engine light that is only used on gasser (and maybe the psd).
Your TECA is alive, it's found a problem and is telling you with the od light, most of the time the obd1 connector in these trucks are so corroded that it makes it hard to retrieve codes, you can try cleaning the pins or replace the pigtail. You can get the odb1 tester for these trucks but if it can't make connection you'll be at this same point again. Try cleaning the contacts and using the test light again.
i done as you said and cleaned all the terminals and checked them with a ohms meter and they are making contact if the codes got erased would that cause it to not respond like it is doing?
well i took a shot in the dark and pulled the vss censer out yesterday and the end of it was all nasty so i cleaned it and removed the battery terminals and it is shifting like it should and no lights blinking i app. the help from everyone maybe i can help on of y'all sometime
