One piece drive shaft

I've seen a few pics on here of folks replacing the two piece shaft with a single driveshaft. Is that just something I can get built (any tranny/drivetrain shop) or is there some specific places you guys can recommend I contact? Looking for opinions on this swap too. Thanks!

Brad, I went to a 1 piece when I did my upgrades a few years back. Any local driveline shop should make it happen for you. No issues so far. They are all 1 piece today.

Are there any advantages to converting to a one piece shaft?

Less moving parts to fail/maintain for one. Less expensive to replace for another. You'll have to make sure your slip yoke on the transmission end is long enough or the DS will fall off at max suspension travel.

I went to a local driveline shop (Slyco) and had them build one for me.

There is a disadvantage, which is the maximum rpm at which it can operate safely.
I remember when I had my driveshaft made, for use with the stock 3 speed in a swb, the company that made it recommended that I don't operate it above 4500rpm. When I installed the T5, it became short enough that the max was well over 6000rpm. I don't remember how much the change in length was, but it was less then a foot.
For street use, either of these scenarios should be fine but on a LWB, it could reduce that rpm to a point that it really is not usable.

Any good driveshaft shop will build your DS with these length and diameter vs speed ratios in mind.

Interesting, I have never seen shaft with the slip yoke at the differential end, is this how later model trucks are?
