Hi I have a 2001 4x2 ranger with a manual transmission and a bad engine. I bought a 2001 4x4 wrecked ranger that has an auto trans with a good engine. I would like to take the 4x2 cab and install on the 4x4 frame. The 4x4 ranger cab is loaded with many accessories including power windows, cruise, tape deck, etc. If I swap the ruined cab for the good one can I also swap out the dash, door panels etc. Do I need to swap wiring harness as well. Not sure what all would be required.
You might have to swap parts of the wiring harness, but you might luck out. The majority of the wiring harness is exactly the same for all models and levels. It is not guaranteed, but you might find all the connections you need are there. The door panels and dash can be swapped. I think it won't be a difficult task. Many connections to the cab wiring are made through a rather large connector, with minimal other connections.
The 4x4 would likely have a few additional wires and connectors for the four wheel drive components. Doing this is a time consuming project, but not at the top of the difficulty scale for projects.

If I am counting correctly, there are 39 dash harnesses for 2001 Ranger trucks. There is a difference in 2wd/4x4 and also power equipment group. Depending on engine, that may or may not make a difference. Presence of a passenger air bag makes a difference too, although your trucks likely have it. It even matters if both have a glove box lamp!
A sure fire way to tell us to look at the firewall connector. They could have a 120pin or an 80pin. If they don't match, you must swap harnesses. Personally, since the dash is out, I would swap the harnesses anyway. It won't be very hard with all that other stuff out of the way!
