Cab Swap Questions
Both trucks are the same year, both have the same XLT Lariet options, and both have same color interior.
The only real difference is the 4X4 & 2X4.
Would I have to swap everything or can I just remove the column & unbolt everything from the firewall Then swap the cabs?
Or would the wiring harnesses have to be swapped as well.
I think it might be easier & quicker to do the swap then it would be to chop the top off my 4X4 & reweld a new on on there.
Any Insight? How about any detailed differences between the two trucks that would affect this swap easy?
If your trucks are both made in the same country I can't think of any problem, other than the obvious - hole in the floor for shifter, and dash indicator lights for the 4wd, etc. If you want those dash indicators etc to work, you'll have to change the dash cluster (probably an easy job) and some wiring (probably not so easy) Also,if you use the 2wd title, your insurance co. won't understand that it's a 4wd. Might make it hard to sell also.

But , i did pull the whole dash assembly out of my doner cab. 4 bolts and about 7 - 8 screws and a whole bunch of wireing to unplug. and the speedo cable and heater cables. when it was all loose i popped the 2 big rubber firewall plugs out and pulled wireing harness through into cab and then lifted the whole thing out as one piece. it was really easy, so i will be doing a dash swap as well as a cab swap . i hate wireing and this seemed to be the best soloution for me. got original to "truck" wireing harness that will Plug right back in. and no removal of guages ect. it took me less than a hour to get it out and i had no idea what i was doeing.
as for the rest of the swap, it took me and a friend about 3 1/2 hours to get front clip and cab off the truck. again with out a clue how to do it and a few " recreational" time outs. still have to reassemble . will probably take i bit longer
Hope this helps
Good luck
