Engine fan replacement

ok, the fan that is on my truck is having some clutch issues, it is not slipping, so at higher rpms like if im pulling a hill, all i hear is the fan, and the fan shaft has some play, so im afraid that it may fly off, so instead of replacing it with a mechanical oem fan, id like an electric fan. but im not sure which one, what cfm, size, so if anyone has done this before, id appreciate some guidance

Personally I think an electric fan is overrated. Mechanical fan work just fine on these old trucks with no mods.

A Taurus E-fan from a car in a junkyard with a proper temp controller relay and wiring is what everyone seems to use on our trucks with the best results, however I have been able to get away with a relay on a switch going to a 2600 cfm flex-a-lite fan, I've had noticeable gains in power in all rpm ranges, a slight increase in fuel economy and a much happier truck all around. Replacement Mech fans now tend to die in just a few days due to poor manufacturing and your almost better off with the E-fan mod in my books.

Just my two cents wishing you the best of luck.

Not sure on year as of this moment but I think a 99 will work, I'd go ahead and keep the fan and all the wiring and relay is possible before it goes. You'll have to get creative on the mounts for the fan I'm sure but if a few pieces metal and some bolts don't scare you it can be done. Btw I need to ask if you have a 3G amp already installed on your truck or not? If you have the stock 2G alt you will want to do the #g conversion as well and your car might be able to supply you with those items as well such as battery wire from alt to battery a inline fuse for that wire and the alternator itself.
