electric cooling fans
I was thinking about taking out the crappy clutch cooling fan and replacing it with an electric fan. Jeg's has some basic relay kits with a switch to turn it on manually. Has anyone ever done this mod? I heard the clutch fan setup puts drag on the motor.

The clutch fan actually creates less drag on the motor than a fixed fan. The clutch fan spins freely for the most part and really only engages as the temps get hot. Make sure the electric fan you get will flow enough air to keep your motor cool if you are eliminating the pulley driven fan. Get the largest fan you can or a couple small ones to cover as much of the radiator as possible. A flow rate of 3000cfm or better would be best. A cheap way to do it would be to scout the salvage yards for some full-size front wheel drive cars. They have good electric fans in them. I put a 12" fan from a celica on a BB dodge as a helper and it made a huge improvement.

i live in arizona where our temps get up to 120. i bought one of spals best fans, even got the wiring kit with the thermostat. put in place of my wifes stock flex fan in her 70 mustang, waist of time. i then bought there pusher blade and installed the fan in front of my radiator of my jeep. i still have a aluminum bladed fan on my jeep and with it running and then i switch on the electric fan and what a difference, its great, but thats as a pusher working with a fixed bladed fan. what i did on my chevy was go to the junk yard and got a , believe, 7 or 8 bladed fan and attached it to my fan clutch, major difference.
