Finally back off shift and making progress. I think Henry's getting a little selfconscious about having his shirt off this long, so I hope to remedy that by the weekend. Marked out my steering box location and bored the mount holes.
Slid everything back under and it all clears nicely.
I'm using the dodge box as well as the hydroboost. It was available, cheap, and should all work together. I hope.
Awesomeness! Cab mounts look like they are about to give up though?
That they are, mainly driver side. New one on it's way already. Not too many unexpected surprises like that yet, we'll see.
Having problems uploading pics to photobucket so I'm behind on progress. Finished the fab on frame and painted it . Then off to engine that unfortunately fell victim to the KDP at one point in it's life. It was the "repaired" not fixed mind you. So a timing case was the order of the day yesterday. All buttoned up and time to find some paint. Also steering bits on the way should have box mounted and all set later today.
Success on uploads.
Rear shackle hangars.
Steering box mounts, 1" DOM .250 wall Tigged to frame(I was tired and I had a big gap to fill), proud on both sides so I don't have to grind off the weld so the lock washer will sit flat, a bit of a scoop for the steering shaft, and a slight recess for the end casting on the box.
Finally cleaned it up and slathered on some semigloss.
And there really isn't anything structural about the drivers cab mount, It's rotted completely around the front of the donut.
So what happens when the dowel pin pops out and goes for a ride on the cam gear? Kind of like the ultimate interference fit. Not too bad, I've seen worse, didn't get pushed right through, but broken clean across.
How do you "repair" it? Epoxy of course. Didn't leak, much.
That does nothing to reinforce the crack shown in the picture above. But hey, they didn't have to pull the cam. Now all buttoned up ready for some paint, maybe a wire brush first.
Bolted the front suspension back on and dropped him back on his feet. Finished up the steering, everything looks good.
Then on to the hydroboost install. Laid out a plate in CAD to replace the factory one. The guy I have do my CNC cutting got a little confused and cut 4 not 1. So I have some extras.
Trimmed, Painted and installed.
