I have a Leer with a front slider, carpet interior, racks on the roof for kayaks, dog screens in the side slider windows, an additional LED light in the front of the interior and 3 12 volt plugs in the back, works great, keeps things dry and secure.
By canopy I assume you're referring to a bed cover?
If so, I like my retractable Roll-n-Lock. Low profile, pretty water tight, rolls up out of the way so you can still use the entire bed and carry tall/big things.
I've had fiberglass hard bed covers in the past. Never again. They can look good, but if you use the bed of your truck a lot, they get in the way and are heavy and hard to remove.
My truck is the same as yours except it's a SB. My tonneau cover is an extang solid fold 2.0. Super easy installation and removal if you need the full bed. Extang - America's Best Selling Tonneau Covers
common term for bed covers is 'tonneau cover". ive had 3 different 'Truxedo' brand covers on different trucks. one for almost 8 years. no problems and i highly recommend the brand. a suggestion is to search internet for the cover you want at the lowest price. then pic a dealer you want to buy from and see if they match the advertised lowest price you found. Truxedo has authorized online retailers and thats what i did. got lowest price from amazon/ebay, then contacted one of the authorized dealers recommeded by truxedo and they matched the price, which was 30$ lower.
Not looking for a bed cover... this truck hauls pallets of ammo. Need a canopy...
I think the confusion lies in the use of "Canopy". This term is rarely used to describe a bed cap, camper shell, topper, etc.. I have never heard it called a canopy. If you are indeed talking about one of the above, A.R.E makes a good product. I had the "T Wedge" on my last truck. This in combination with a tailgate seal kept things nice and dry.
Lots of choices out there, how about we start with how much you wanna spend. They all have their pros and cons. Some complain that they leak and others say they don't. I personally believe it's all in the installation and making sure everything is lined up 100%.
I've got a Leer 100XQ with Leer locker, carpeted, removable front window, 2 LED dome lights, roof rack rails and power port and it run me $3500 installed. Could have saved a couple hundred driving home to PA where they're made, but I'd have spent that in fuel. Had a lower end Leer on my 05 F250, carpeted, windowless, and it never leaked. Had one I frequently took on and off of my 06 Ram and it started leaking after I put it back on the first time.
Storage is another important thing to keep in mind. Build a jig to ensure that it doesn't get tweaked and deformed when you aren't using it and have it off the truck. I won't remove mine as I've got another truck to use when I need an open bed. It provides a dry, safe secure place to keep things and good looks to boot.
