I'd like to put a tonneau on, but don't want to put on a snap or velcro tonneau.
I saw a roll-away one on a truck a little while back. Looked nice.
It would be nice to have something like that since it's lockable, and if I want to move the motorcycles, just "roll it away" when I need access to the bed.
So - if you have one or have any info - brands, experiences, etc - I'd like to hear it.
I decided against one because of cost, and loss of front of bed. I went with the Fold-a-Cover, cheaper, hard shell, lockable, and can be removed by one person in about three or four minutes.
It also has other advantages.
There are two or three other makers.
I have a Roll-n-Lock and have loved it. I is lockableand 98% waterproof. You do lose some bed space up front, but since the Ford's bed is so deep you can still get plenty of stuff underneath it. Plus I have a supercrew and their is no bed space anyway. My current truck is the 3rd truck I have transferred it to, the others where a Chevy and a GMC. All I had to do was change the bedrails. Also there is no bed drilling except the bracket on the tailgate which is attached with tek screws. I paid $650 new, but they have gone up quite a bit to about $900. I think they are alot more versatile than the fiberglass tops, plus I like that it is flush.
I just installed my Extang RT two weeks ago. I do like the way it looks. and I paid $300 for it. When you look from the side its not as smooth as I would like but over all for the price its a nice cover. It does roll up and take about six inches of the bed, But its very easy to remove the whole thing when you need to. If I get a chance I will post some pics soon. Also look at Access covers They are similar to the Extangs the diff being the Access covers have a tappered edge.
I recently ordered a FX-4 RC and want to get a top of the line bed cover. I like what I saw on the Retrax Website. Anyone have one? Comments/Pros and Cons?
Check out Pace Edwards in your search. As noted I got the electric control model (comes with remote fob),, stops at any position. it was pricy though. I did talk to the rep for awhile about there product and it is just as he stated. they do have a manual model that can locks every 12".
Access makes an excellent roll up cover. Several cross bars keep the tonneau flat and stationary when in place. They roll up with the cover, rather than having to remove and store them separately. When you roll the cover out, the final roll engages a tightening cam aparatus that puts good front to back tension on the tonneau. Then all you have to do is tap down the sides against the velcro.
It smokes all my previous soft covers in terms of both ease of use and looks.
I had a Roll-n-Lock retractable cover on my previous ride, a Sport Trac. I was not impressed with its quality after only 2 years of ownership. It rattled pretty bad (you could hear from inside the cab), the black vinyl top was fading pretty bad, and did not roll back that smoothly. A friend has one on their F250 with similiar problems.
Seems like Retrax is about the best one out there right now, but it costs alot!
