I have exterior lights. So, maybe I need to get one of those little battery-powered testors to just test the integrity of the fuse. It could be that the others are not powered because the ignition switch or some thing directly attached to it might be burned or something. I mean the coil and the points might be part of the problem. My guy who does not want to work on it did say that the there was no fire going to the distributor, but my neighbor and old guy who used to work on old trucks said back when he was a kid, they would make a button and start the motor with that. He said that he had a special short battery wire that just popped off when you wanted it to. I will check back on this. I have something else to do for the rest of the evening. Thank you --feel like I'm making progress..
Do you want to find the problem and repair it? Or do you want to hot wire it so it will run?
Well, I am ashamed to say that for some reason a LOT of fuses were gone or would not light up with the little yellow tester. Now for a minute, they seem all Ok, though I did replace a 5 amp, when one of the three lights on the top of the dash, the one on the left didn't come on the second time I turned the key. I haven't checked if I got the right exact fuses I think I can look that up on that copy that is so hard to read I downloaded somewhere, I mostly used 10, 15, and 20, though two are 30s, and the thirties are where they seemed to have been before. My neighbor keeps insisting I have burned out a fusible link in the battery cable, even the new one maybe. I am not so sure that there is always a fuse in a starter cable. Seems the fuse chart mentions a location, but I am not sure where that is.That chart I got says the ignition switch is always hot so maybe taking down the steering column and replacing that is the problem, but damn I had hire a truck yesterday to do my work so how would I hotwire it to at least see if the dang thing run? I guess a temporary button or something would be a start, at least I could drive it to a shop and chat with them about their knowledge of this sort to the truck.
BTW, now the red light along the top of the dash light up.
I did find out that jumping the solenoid made it turn over but no fire to the plugs. So, my buddy next door might be right, we didn't replace the positive battery cable and it could be bad, but it would mean a short. I think replace the starter wire and the ignition thing, but I swear, I never knew there was a fuse in starter cables.
