Shawn, I received your photos and I can see the engine you have is a ford 300 L6 and is not a 262. Thank you for responding and the time to send me photos . John
Look at every '61-'64 6 cyl. truck for sale, there may be a 262 under the hood without the seller even knowing about it.
Of course, you want to find a much rougher candidate. Zero in on every '64.http://www.ebay.com/itm/1964-Ford-F-100-/151776304092?ru=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fsch%2Fi.html%3F_from%3DR40%26_sacat%3D0%26_nkw%3D151776304092%26_rdc%3D1&nma=true&si=DQbz9XDGXs16gRpHtSgKfncqgwA%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557

223/262 I-6: Intake/Exhaust manifolds located on the left (drivers) side.
240/300 I-6 introduced in 1965: Intake/Exhaust manifolds located on the right (passenger) side.
Hmm, https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...ht-my-eye.html. Wonder what is setting in the engine compartment; although, after setting for extended period of time, who knows what condition the engine's in? May be worth checking out; if correct, and benbuilder decides to purchase, perhaps he would be willing to make an offer can't refuse?
Looks like the man found what he is looking for. I like happy endings like that.
hoss73ford, If you mean me I have not found a 262 yet. if you are referring to the truck listing above in this post that engine is a 223 I am still looking ...
oh that sux,, yeah I thought there was always a possibility that it might be a 223. Some don't really have a clue to what they have or were told wrong by previous owners. Also, ebay sellers are bad about that as I have half a dozen wrong parts sitting on my shelf.
Yeah, I had hoped it saw a262 but once I saw the engine photo I saw right away the engine was a 223 ...Missing the 3rd rail just above the dip stick found only on the 262.I'm still looking
the 262 has 3 support rails running along the block front to back starting with the pan rail then another about 1 1/2 inchs up and another just above the dip stick hole in the drivers side. the 223 only has 2 the panrail the one above that.
i did not know about that! ive never seen a 262 in person or in pictures. thank you for your answer. another question, one of my maintenance jobs we had a carry deck crane and a fork truck that had a 4 cylinder that looked like a 223 cut down to a 4. any ideas what it was?
