Imagine already checked w/ local shops for remanufactured created replacement? I purchased a created 'long block' engine from outfit in the State of Washington approx. 8 years ago that came with a 7 year warranty, company still in business and engine running strong. Since I installed the engine had it delivered to the house rather than shop which came to approx. $2200, included core and cost of shipping. If end up going this route, I would not purchase a rebuilt with less than 2-4 year warranty, and review any warranty disclaimers.

Although purchased a long block V8 from them 8 years ago and pleased with transaction only posting as an example. Not clear if the 262 is available since item descriptions notes interested party inquire? Aint cheap, appears delivered can run around $2500, perhaps shop around for quotes on cost to have existing engine rebuilt and compare cost and length of warranty?? Had 2-3 engines rebuilt and none came under $2000? Surprised members have not offered suggestions, there should be similar rebuild shops in close proximity?

I'd be extremely surprised if any engine rebuilder had one of these built and ready to go. Most people never knew Ford even made them.

You may have to purchase a banged up rusty parts truck just for the engine. Look at every '61-'64 6 cyl. truck for sale, there may be a 262 under the hood without the seller even knowing about it. A standard option on '61-'64 2 ton trucks, a standard option on '64 F 100 F 250 2WD's, was a special order engine on any other '61-'64 model.
