Getting back at it - C6 question

Hello all. I've been absent from the site for a looong time, too many other things and a big heap of life was taking up a lot of my time.
Anyway, I'm back to where I can start working on my truck again and need to address the issue of my leaking C6. I have a line on a replacement that came out of a 78 econoline, of course seller says it ran good he just switched out to go with a manual trans. My short term question is going from the van to out trucks is it a bolt in swap? Notice I didn't say simple. Seller wants $300 for trans, convertor & flex plate.
As always any help is appreciated.
Russell

If it is the same engine series as yours, it's a direct bolt up. 351M/400?

You list a 360 engine in your sig. So the C6 out of the Econ. won't work unless it had a FE engine in it, which is doubtful.

1978 was the transition year of the NSS being moved to the side of the transmission. '77 and earlier NSS was mounted on the steering column, inside the cab.

Unless a transmission is being bought from a transmission shop, I would consider any automatic bought from a wrecking yard or from an individual to be a 'core' transmission to be rebuilt.

Otherwise, running it as-is, it may last five years or, it may last five minutes.

What are differences between a C6 mated to an FE vs. this particular situation, the econo? I've always thought the advantage to a C6 is that it is so interchangeable between applications the basics of it being the same, size, mount points, tail shaft length, etc.
I understand there may be slight differences similar to what was stated about the NSS but other than that aren't they basically the same?

There is an FE C6 and a 351M/400/460 C6... what engine do you have and what engine does the van have. (I'm not familiar with what the 351C tranny is)

From the research I've gathered, there are 3 types of c6 bell housings.

FE pattern (360/390 etc)
Big Block pattern (351M/400M)
Small Block pattern (302,351W etc) I'm pretty sure the Cleveland falls into this category.

The C-6 has no separate "bell housing". The transmission case is for applications as mentioned above.

I don't think the van is going to have an FE in it...
