Hi,my truck has just started sporadically not starting when warm.I tried pouring water on injector pump when this happened and it did start immediately.Looks like the "heat soak problem".Truck starts up right away cold.
Are there any other symptoms of the pump going bad?Truck has 164k on it pump is original. what is the average life span of a pump?
For best performance, pumps should be replaced about every 100K. They don't typically 'die' catastrophically, though... the timing just gets sloppier, and then you run into hard starting etc.
So, yes, you're right in there for time to replace it.
yes you will need to remove all 8 injector lines, plus the inlet and return lines off the pump before removing it.
and as said above, if you are going to replace the injector pump, you should really also replace the injectors and put a return line kit on it at the same time or you will only be taking it back apart in a month or so to do it.
