My 1992 f150 4x4 trucks overdrive light on the column shifter is flashing. Read that it could mean that the tranny needs work. But the plastic that the button is on has been falling apart. I can pull the pieces out of the shifter. So idk if that's causing it like a wire is coming loose. It is starting to wind up from 2nd to 3rd but it shifts fine otherwise. Fluid and filter are only a year old. Tranny has over 230k on it. Thanks for the help in advance.

 

If it's flashing regularly then it has nothing to do with the button coming apart. It doesn't necessarily mean the tranny needs work, it just means that the computer detected a problem that will affect transmission operation which might or might not be something wrong with the trans itself. When you see this light flashing then you know for sure the computer has fault codes waiting for you to read.
