Installed shift kit, engine bogs down in reverse and 1st

So last weekend I installed a transgo kit for my 4R100 transmission in my 2000 F250 diesel. I didn't really care about getting a shift kit, but I had problems with delayed shifts and figured the accumulator springs had broken. It turns out that was correct, the 2nd gear spring came out in 8 pieces.

Anyway, the transmission shifts great now, but when I put it in reverse it the engine jumps up 200 rpm and then it bogs down as it engages reverse forcefully. It also does this while selecting 1st from Park.

From what I'm reading it's the TC not unlocking and/or a fluid pressure/volume issue. I've also read the filter might have fallen off, I had a hell of a time keeping it in place.

I've checked the the fluid level and everything is good there. My question is when I drop the pan, aside from the filter, what should I look for?

Look for a loose filter. If the fluid level is good, it has to be the pan, or something weird went wrong with the shift kit.

The filter should push into the pump and stay up there with no problem. Did you remove the old o ring with the old filter, and install the new one on the new filter?

I read that the old o-ring sticking was a problem before I started, so I made sure it came out with the old filter.

With the new filter, it really didn't want to stay in the hole, so I kinda forced it in there until it didn't slowly sag and fall out. It's likely the o-ring is mangled, it was the end of a long night.

I should also mention, the transmission would make a gurgling/hissing sound for about 5 seconds when the engine was shutoff.

Last week I pulled the pan and fixed a few things:
  • The o-ring for the filter might have been wedged sideways, not sealing properly.
  • The two 10mm nuts on the studs for the accumulator were loose.
  • Remembered to install the thimble filter for the servo pack.
  • Disassembled everything, cleaned, and inspected.
It likely was the o-ring, but hard to say, it's working great now!
