I have a 1985 F-150 4x4 with an inline 6. The motor mounts are worn out in it and I am planning to replace them in the next couple of days. I am also planning on replacing the oil-pan gasket and the oil pump at the same time since it will be accessible. I am looking for some tips/advice on the easiest way to get this done the first time. If anyone has any experience on this I would appreciate some advice and feedback. Thanks, Tucker.
On an 86 I had years ago, with the I6 engine, I lifted the engine just enough to pull the pan, by removing the bolts from the motor mounts, and lifting the engine with a floor jack, and block of wood. I carefully jacked up the engine, using the harmonic balancer as a jacking point. When high enough, I placed blocks of wood where the motor mounts went. Of course you have to remove shroud, etc.
I don't have an engine crane but I was thinking about renting one to do the 2 motor mounts and then using a floor jack for the tranny mount. Also, are there any restrictions for when I lift the motor? Ex, am I going to have to remove/disconnect any parts that might get in the way?
