2001 F350 7.3l with 4" exhaust exit after axle. Truck came with no spare tire or spare tire mounting hardware. Looking at the spare location the 4" exhaust looks to be in the way. Any other ideas for location for the spare tire? Thinking the only option is to toss it in the bed. Any down side to exit the exhaust before the rear axle
I was driving down the street and the tire actually broke away from the spare tire holder. It popped the back end of the truck up, rolled past a few houses and was introduced to my neighbors garage door. Needless to say it sits in the bed. Where it should be IMO.

dang... I thought you were going to tell me where to find a spare. glad no one was hurt!
The tire is supposed to be between the rear differential and the rear bumper. There is a winch mounted to the underside of the truck which hoists the tire up against the bed.

Here is a picture of the winch you are missing.
I think the previous owner removed mounting hardware and tire when the 4" exhaust was added. looking to confirm if others that had a 4" exhaust also had to remove spare tire or is there a way to fit it.
I welded up a rack for the back of the bed were the tire sits behind the finder well standing up on my f150. I liked it so much I am thinking of doing it on my f250. Makes it a lot easier than it being under the truck and looks good. I have made 5 or 6 for other people.
Here is the mount I built, I welded it up out of 3/16 and 1/4 steel. The wheel is bolted with 4 locking lug nuts.
This was my first welding project a few years back. I sill am thinking about making a swing-arm tire carrier and bumper for the rear.

Very nice. A swing arm mount is what I would like. Seems they only make them for Jeeps and SUV's.
