Hoping those out there who have done custom door panels can share some pics maybe some instructions on what they did..
Last week I took mine off, repainted and added all new factory clips etc but they just seem to be looser than what I want. Constantly have to smack them back in place..
I like the Diamond plate look but I want to retain the factory armrest and latches..
Use the plastic longer GM push pins, not the Ford ones and NOT the metal ones.
You can notch cut the place the 2 bolts touch and hold the panel out, no worries the finger cup covers them. And you can also add 2" wide velcro, along the top and bottom.
You can also do a combo stock door panel and tread plate over lay.
You can get the aluminium tread plate in colors like black, red and blue. Not just solid painted looking, but more like a shade of those colors infused in the metal thru and anodizeation process? Or how ever you call it?
Rich , Where do I get the right push pins to hold my door panels tight ? I was looking at the ones Dennis Carpenter sells and they look the same as the ones I had on my right door, the left door had different ones and it was loose and squeeked .

I made these door panels out of 1/2" birch plywood. The arm rest and speaker pod is made out of fiberglass. The panels are attached with screws with snaps. Covers were made to hide screws, one cover for the bottom and the long skinny cover at the top. I also used a couple of the speaker screws to hold the door panel. The door handle is made out of stainless steel.
I just cleaned and repainted my original door panels to match the 92-96 cloth seat I put in, it's more of a taupe color, so I got some plastic paint from Lowe's and painted em. Then, when I went to install them, I found the back part of the door panel where the clips go all busted up and most would not hold a clip anymore. I have seen people put screws thru the door panel and I thought that looked trashy, but I did not want to start all over with repop panels. I recently put a gauge pod in my '91, and it came with screws that had these little caps on them that you could paint to match. They look pretty nice so I went looking for those online. I found them at pro-dec.com, they are called "kappets" I think. Anyway, I bought em and put 4 screws in the panel, it turned out pretty nice, I think, and it was, most importantly, cheap:

Great job on those door panels. They turn out great. They would look right at home in a resto mod truck too. Thanks for sharing.
