hey all my 57/60 mutt came with nothing on door at all, not even access panels, was it just painted metal? could someone point me towards a good pic of a restored door inside to see what was original, mine won't be but want to take from stock ideas
I have never seen an original door panel for a 57-60. There are several companies who offer panels, but they can get a little pricey. I'm figuring on making one out of fiberboard and coveing it myself. I made some about ten years ago, but I used foamboard and quilt batting under some vinyl covering--it didn't work so well.
any sites with pics? looking for ideas, planned on a fiber board panel covered in vinyl with some stitching and batting to give it a raised panel look, but unsure of design as of yet
Here's the site for Rod Doors. This might give you an idea. If memory serves me right, these panels to all the way up the door; they don't stop where the original door panels did. http://www.roddoors.com/fordtruckdoors.html
If you wanna see an original 57 door panel, check out my gallery, theres a pic of one in there, not completely but it's enough to show you what they were, basically what appears to be is massonite. I work at a car interior shop and i've made interior panels before, if ya have any questions, ya can ask me.
i think i'll try to make my own first, i like the way that the line blends from door to dash in klatt_89's gallery pic, but i saved that link to roddoors, if i decide to throw money at it and be done with it, their stuff does look nice, even saw a rear panel without gastank, which is what i will eventually have.
klatt when i tackle the doors, i'll let you know if i need any tips, thank you for the offer
If you make your own, use a sheet of plastic and tape it up (this is also used as the splash guard) to make a template. Tape it up and use say a sharpie or a yellow chalk like pencil. Then transfer that over to the masonite/door panel board and there ya go. If you choose to get them covered with vinyl or cloth, you'll have to use a different clip too attach them. I gota go now, but i'll get back to you if you have any more questions.
