Just needing to know how long I need to wait after torquing down the intake manifold, with Black RTV sealant on the end corners of the rubber seals for which it rest on.
Would like to be done today. All I have left is to do is set intake in and then torque. Would like to able to have coolant in by nightfall here, about 5 1/2 hours to go. Want it ready to fire up as early as dawn tomorrow morning.
Will it interfere with anything, if I get it done earlier? Just on a time crunch and need my dd back. Need to be sure its running right before letting the wife have it so I can do some maintenance to our 2000 Expedition!!
I don't wait but then again I don't use the rubber seals that come in the kit. They usually slip out of position. I'd lay down a bead of The Right Stuff and install the lower plenum.
When I did my 460's intake I used those rubber gaskets that go on the China walls and also used silicone and they still leaked. I will never use them again and would recommend just using silicone on the China walls instead. The above poster mentioned the right stuff, I have used that a few times and it works excellent imo, it also sets up very fast.
Also when I did my lower I used rtv ultra black and let it film for about 15 minutes then set the intake down, torqued and reassembled.
Just an FYI, if you use the rubber "waffle" gaskets, do NOT put any sealer on the waffle part, only at the ends where the tabs go over the intake port gaskets. On the RTV I use it states to assemble immediately and hand tighten bolts, then wait an hour and fully torque them. Supposedly it then takes another 24 hours for it to completely set up, but I've never had problems with leaks before running fluids though after a few hours.
