hey thanks again for all the help on my last post. I really appreciate all of that imformation. ok I have the intake set and it has the cork end pieces. should I put a bead of my black rtv on the block and then press on the cork end pieces and let it set up so it wont move when i install the intake. then put another bead on top of the cork. or scrap the cork altogether. thanks....
I did mine with just the black RTV. Scrapped the cork altogether. I used some stuff called The Right Stuff. It was easy to work with and sealed great. I used a 1/4 - 5/16ths bead on the ends and it came out perfect. I used an aluminum intake and that is what they called for. Dont forget to put a small smear around the coolant ports as well when you install the intake.

Use the cork gaskets for proper alignment. Set the dry cork gasket on the block, and you will see that the gasket does not lay flat against the head. It buckles because of being to long. Cut off the end tabs and then set the gasket in place with rtv sealer on the bottom of the gasket. Let it dry. Before installing the intake manifold, put a glob of rtv at both ends of the cork gasket where it meets the heads. Make sure the glob is a little higher than the height of the cork gasket. Run a thin bead of rtv on the top side of the cork gaskets and install your intake. Some people like to install the distributor for alignment, before tightening the intake manifold bolts. This technique works every time without leaks.
Without knowing a lot more about what intake and if the heads have been milled or not, set the intake on the heads with either an old intake gasket on each side or the new ones (carefully!).
Leave out the cork ends and see how much room there is between the intake and the block.
Depending on the intake, and if the heads were milled (and how much), you might not have enough room for the cork.
Krewat is correct.... If your heads have been milled so much that the cork gasket does not fit, then the proper way to remedy that problem is to mill the intake to get everything lined up again.
If your heads or intake have not been milled, then use the cork.
