Tuner question

I currently am running a dpf6.. I have a diablo sport trinity tuner that I was using on another vehicle that is freed up now... Can I run the diablo sport run in conjunction with my dpf6 tunes? Anybody tried this and can tell me what the results are?

I am going to jump in with a "I don't think so!" The DP F6 writes a tune on the fly, the Trinity writes the tune to the PCM, and stores the factory tune until such time as you restore it to stock. So, in essence, you would be programming the tune with the DP, then storing that tune in the Trinity. Or, you would write the tune with the Trinity, and then the DP Tuner would probably not work correctly, as it the PCM has changed.....Just thinking out loud here....

I believe you could tune the pcm so if you ever remove the chip the pcm will have the tune. The chip is supposed to override any tuning on the pcm as it "runs on all 4 pages" of the pcm. So I'd say go for it if you want. I believe the term for that is called stacking. If the chip doesnt run right just flash it back to stock and reinstall

I'm going take a stab at this and say it looks like if you return the PCM back to stock with the Trinity you can use the gauges and other functions of the device along with our F6 for tuning. The two just won't work together "stacked" for the tuning. To be sure on using the gauges and other functions I'd contact Diablo to check on that.

As mentioned already... tunes don't stack.

However if the Trinity has other functions you would find beneficial, such as gauges, alarms, ability to read codes, etc.... then by all means use it for those purposes and just keep the chip in.

Personally I have zero experience with the Trinity, so it could very well not do any of that. Heck if I know. LOL

Im not familiar with the diablo, I was thinking it would flash a tune to the pcm? The chip would override the pcm tuning until the chip is removed. They would not work together the chip would just stack on top of the tune?

So the PCM HAS to be running a stock tune to work with a chip correctly. Help me help myself

Short and simple version....

You can run whatever tune you want on the PCM.

However, once a chip is connected and running, it doesn't matter what's on the PCM anymore. The chip takes over from there. The two tunes do not work together, they don't stack, nothing.

Remove the chip and it reverts back to whatever is on the PCM.

seems reasonable an logical... i think that it is only usable for the gauges as long as i have the F6 installed... I am running the 60hp econo tune right now, i also have one of the tow tunes and the 100hp race tune (i believe) and all customized to water meth and my wicked wheel 2 and my stage 1 split shot injectors :-) id have to look at my paperwork... any of you all have personal favorites for your tunes

Thats exactly what I was trying to convey. That he could tune the pcm and install the chip. I just meant stacking as in the chip stacks on top of whatever tune is on the pcm and overrides it, but I will refrain from using stacking as it just causes confusion lol.

Unfortunately the term "stacking" has been around since before the lights didn't go out in Y2K. Tuners generally cringe at the idea of what it actually conveys.
