Windshield Wipers slow

Can you guys tell a difference between "Lo" and "Hi" with your wipers? I'm worried mine might be failing because on Skippy there's not 10c worth of difference between the two. Hi is barely faster than Lo.

Also, wheres the wiper motor located? Is it under the vent cowl with the wiper arms?

Thanks!

My hi and low are definitely different speeds.
There would be my best guess for the wiper motor, too.

The Wipers use a Relay to determine speed. Switch it with a known good one before replacing the Motor Assy. Since you don't list the year I can't post any diagrams.

Thanks Thomas! I'll get those relays today if I can. Our local auto parts store is saying Not Available on the relays. Does anyone know if there's a generic replacement (since it's just relays)?

DOH! At this rate I'll owe ya a case soon

Bad news on the relay, I changed them both out and still slow on the HI setting. For reference, Toyota (I know, right?!) part number 90987-04004 is the same relay. Guess it's on to the motor. The only one the local place had in stock says WITHOUT WASHER so IDK what that's about. Thought they all had washers.

Have you checked both circuits from the Fuse Block to the Motor? You can test from the relay base to the motor plug for continuity. Or, 0.00 on v--

No, I haven't done that, for some reason I missed notification that this thread had a reply.

I just replaced the motor though and that fixed the problem. I wrote a step-by-step how-to on it in my build thread here:

Question 1985 ranger wiper problem

Hello and thanks for the add.... I have an 85 Ranger I just inherited from my dad that we built about 16 years ago. It has been sitting for about 8 years. Someone tried to steal it recently so I brought it home and began working on it. It has tilt wheel which they destroyed the column so I bought an 88 parts truck. Anyway, the wipers on the 85 only worked on high and the washer no longer works. I have already removed the governor, switch, and motor from the 88 which I checked prior to removal and know for certain they worked on all speeds and intermittent..... Now that I have put everything on the 85 I still have only high speed and no washer. Are there a relay or something that could be bad I don't know about? Strange that it all worked good on the other truck but now acts exactly like the stuff on the 85 acted. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
