Can a leaking Y Pipe throw a P0299? Dealership says that is my problem. My MAP at idle is 14.4 EBP is 17 - 18. At 60mph MAP is 20 EBP is 26-28. Boost is 10-20
Truck drives great no apparent issue. P0299 only code and appears when cold first start of day. If I clear it it goes away for the rest of the day and only comes back occasionally. Twice in 5 days only at cold start.
2005 F350, 100% stock, Ford filters all. Scan guage 2 for readings
DTC P0299 can be caused by a leaking y-pipe but more than likely would need to be significant to cause low power and set any codes. If there is soot accumulation back on the firewall and or a noticeable hissing noise the leak is significant. You would also likely notice exhaust fumes inside of the cab. It is also recommended to check for leaks at the exhaust manifolds. Light carbon tracking is acceptable however broken bolts need to be addressed. If this is the case I recommend correcting the leak(s) and then re-evaluate.
MAP-EBP-BARO all should be the same until you start the truck, then MAP-EBP up by a couple and up with throttle. I asked where at because MAP was 14.4, sea level is 14.7-14.9.
Have you been watching VGT? any 85 or 15% numbers. Normally the P0299 is a sticking turbo vanes issue... any turbo farts? Even thought VGT is commanded, I still try an get a good turbo fart often to verify it's not sticking.
Could be that you need to clean a couple sensors like EBP and MAP, may need a turbo cleaning. I'd believe a leaking pipe if it was under the hood air noise or whistling loudly, did you check for soot around any of the joints?
Thanks. Do not smell exhaust in cab ever. Thought of sensors also can you help describe where ebp and map sensors are and methods to clean. I hear a whistle but matches turbo boost guage so I thought it was normal truck is new to me. Has 5500 on odometer. As far as a turbo fart I am not sure as I have no experience. I drove it hard 2 days ago and did not get a code for the next day.(I read a thread saying that might unstick the turbo vanes) It came back this morning.
if you stomp the pedal and then as boost begins to build, let off fast, you should here the relief of pressure, kind of a chopping sound as these don't have a blow off valve but relive thru the intake.... called a fart.
EBP is a small tube on the drivers side exhaust manifold with the sensor on the end, clean the tube with string trimmer line. MAP sensor is over near he=the A/C dryer on the firewall and the hose goes down to the intake manifold, clean that as well, tube, nipple and sensor.
I bought a used 2006 F350 SD DRW with a p0299 active. The sellers mechanic said it needed a new turbo, the CAC boots were cracked and oil soaked. I changed those but would still get a p0299 intermittently, replaced the MAP hose and cleaned the EBP sensor tube, code has stayed away.
