Since taking the cold side 'pipe' off to access the FP reg (blue spring conversion), the pipe occasionally blows off the top connection. I know, common problem. Looking at a bunch of aftermarket pipes. Are any of them "better" than the rest?
It's not the pipe, unless you have a plastic one, it's the oil inside the boot. I just clean both mating surfaces of mine with brake cleaner and let them dry well then reinstall. Never had a problem with the OEM.
Last night when the truck cooled down, I removed quite a bit of oil from inside the end of the pipe and also cleaned the outside of the elbow. With the clamp loose, I can push on / pull off the plastic pipe very easily. The first time I took the pipe off.. I really had to pull and rock it to get it to break loose. Probably deformed it a bit.
I'm thinking about going with the OEM metal pipe. Are they OK or not worth it?
Use a torque wrench. That clamp takes more that you think it should
to get to the correct torque do to the spring. Also cleaning up the oil
will help. Warming the pipe up will help to get it back into place.
Either Ed in the last post, or Clay in this post are both awesome vendors.... I think many of us have spent several entire paychecks with each of them at some point.
