Hello all,
Beyond the obvious emissions and the "check engine" light, what would result by removing and plugging the EGR tube on my '90 F-150?
I've been getting a sporatic "check engine" light that isn't giving me workable codes. KOEO gives me 3 digit codes. From what I understand, that's not supposed to happen until '91 or so. It acts like the EGR valve is shooting the craps. I want to find out how she'll run without it. I'm concerned about what the computer may do to compensate though. Any ideas will be appriciated.
Thanks,
-John R.
At worst you will get part throttle spark knock with the EGR valve disconnected. Mine is inactive, but everything is still plugged in so the PCM thinks the EGR is working. If the valve doesn't work the position sensor knows it isn't opening and throws a code. As long as the valve opens it doesn't know the difference.
Howdy,
Basically the truck is a bit gutless. It idles a little rough. The "check engine" light comes on occasionally while cruising at highway speeds. I can't get usable codes out of the computer once I get the thing home either. It doesn't want to cooperate and come on while on the way home. Only to work.
