I got a check engine light a few days ago on my 1995 F150 5.8L. I hooked up the code reader and it read back 2 codes:
332 (Continuous memory code) - Insufficient EGR flow detected
335 (Key off engine off code) - EGR Sensor Circuit Voltage Higher or Lower Than Expected During Self Test
I assumed this meant that the EGR sensor has gone bad since the valve doesn't use any electrical and the 2nd error mentions a voltage problem. I went ahead an ordered a new valve on ebay for $42 and it should be here on Thursday but I'm not sure if it is going to fix my problem. Any second opinions?
Also, the same day that the check engine light came on, I also started getting a squealing noise like a bad belt or pulley when the truck was idling, but only at an idle. It wouldnt seem that these two issues are related as I don't think theres anything in the EGR system that could squeal but maybe I'm wrong?
Sounds like you might have a vacuum leak on the line to the EGR valve. The EVP sensor can only tell if the valve diaphram is moving up and down in a sufficient range. If you lose the vacuum signal to the valve, then the EVP sensor is going to trip those codes. The "squeal" could be the vacuum leaking?
So I bought a new EGR sensor on ebay for $43 and replaced the one in my truck and guess what, NO MORE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT! I'm so happy to have that over with and glad I didn't have to spend $300 replacing parts before I figured out what was wrong. Just wanted to spread the good news.
Error Codes 332 + 335 on OBD1 = Bad EGR Sensor
Hope someone with this problem finds this post so they don't have to flood Ford forums with threads for answers.
