I've been debating between gutting the cat in my truck or just getting a cat delete pipe. With the delete pipe, I would have to swap it back and forth each year for emissions, but at the same time, I realize the OEM cat is around $2800 from Ford and if I end up moving to California, they only allow OEM cats. My fear if I gut the cat is failing emissions if I move to Cali. It would, however, make emissions in just about every other state more convenient.
I would also like to know the EGT difference after deleting just the cat.
I would think that even with the cat gutted, it would still have some turbulence due to the expanded diameter of the cat housing itself. I've done this, but when I did it I found a clogged cat at a local dealership and punched it out with a rock bar. My good cat is on a shelf in the garage, in case I want to reinstall it. One thing I can say for sure is that the exhaust stinks much more than when the good cat was installed. I think EGTs have dropped a little and she seems to run a little better. Can't say how much EGT may have dropped, however.
Hope this helps a little.
ROFL! That's great! I tried giving you reps for it, but I have to spread some love.
Thanks for the thought on the reps.
Ok I am gong to be a bit risky with this idea and I did not see it
till after I posted it.
Use you dirty mind and look at the birds… That is all I am going to say.
I just went thru this i got given to me about a year ago a 5" mbrp system. I finally got around to installing it. I first cut the cat out and slid everything into place. The sound was awful. Really awful at high idle. Ear piercing turbo sound. I could only imagine how the neighbors would act listening to that every morning from fall to spring as my truck warmed up. So i put it back on and slide the 5" from the cat back. Much more pleasant sound. Quiet almost stock like at idle. But a really good sound as you accelerate. I'm much happier with just the 5" cat back setup. I won't get walk the performance from a full straight pipe but I'm fine with that. I don't have a tuner and don't have any plans on buying one.
