Cat delete questions

Have an 06 F350 and am thinking of deleting the cat. Two questions:

How much does it help lower (if any) EGTs if I keep the stock exhaust system?

Will it make the truck louder? I ask that because my 05 had a cat delete and it was noticeably louder at both idle and acceleration than my 06 and my wife's 04 Excursion. I kinda like the smooth quiet ride 😎

Thanks for the input

Cat delete questions

I wouldn't bother buying a cat delete pipe. Just go with a full turbo back kit.

I was just going to get the muffler shop to cut out the cat and replace it with a piece of pipe. $60 bucks to do it

Cat delete questions

The factory down pipe and exhaust is going to be restrictive as well. You can find a full turbo back for 300 or so.

I pulled mine out and used a drill bit to drill it out then used a rod to beat the rest of it out. My delete was free. slightly louder. I have no idea egt as I dont have a gauge but my cat as blocked so it ran much better.

You can get a cat delete pipe for about that same price.

I wouldn't think there'd be any difference between an 05 and an 06 as far as sound goes. Unless of 'course your '05 had an AM muffler too...

Of course I still have mine, but if I had it deleted it would not be noticebly louder and would only be around $40.

I couldn't give you any firm numbers but I do remember when I deleted the cat with the rest of the stock exhaust in place the temps dropped a little.

When you say a little, is that like 20-30 degrees or like 100 degrees?

I've been debating between gutting the cat in my truck or just getting a cat delete pipe. With the delete pipe, I would have to swap it back and forth each year for emissions, but at the same time, I realize the OEM cat is around $2800 from Ford and if I end up moving to California, they only allow OEM cats. My fear if I gut the cat is failing emissions if I move to Cali. It would, however, make emissions in just about every other state more convenient.

I would also like to know the EGT difference after deleting just the cat.
