engine runs until I release the key
I am still trying to resolve the issue of the truck not continuing to run unless I hold the key in the start position.
I bought a new ignition switch, this did not do it. I completely removed the radio, heat/def unit, gauges and the dash itself. I have also removed the light switch and the wiper switch.
Previous post suggested it may be the switch and others said resistor wire. I have unwrapped almost all the harness in the dash and feel that the resistor wire is warm. The only thing I see odd is the connection between the resistor wire and the brown wire as shown above. I have been reading on this forum and on line trying to figure it out.
I did read about finding which circuit is grounding out by disconnecting the neg lead off the battery. I did this test and determined that the short is in the courtesy lights.
I came across this which I thought would help me to find the short I have, but I could not open the link.

I found my original link from 3 years ago,.

Could this courtesy light short have anything to do with the engine not running? As I said, when I bought the truck, the short existed and it still ran.

So I changed the module and now the truck runs fine. Now I need to go wrap all my wires and put my dash back together. I should have visited that part of this site before getting so involved. A note to all.
