faulty ignition switch

Please help me pinpoint this one. Ive got a 73 at the house, it has points and will not start. I was told that it has been thru a couple of ignition switches. In the past when the key was put into the start position it would crank but would not start untill the key was realeased into the run position. The switch was replaced and for a while everything was normal untill it started to happen again. Any ideas?

There are two electrical supplies to your coil. On is a full 12v while cranking the other is run voltage and runs through a current limiting resistor and should be around 8v at the positive terminal on the coil while running. The resistor is usually a short section of wire with a connector on each end close to the the master cylinder. You should aquire a wiring diagram to fix it right. Most of these older trucks have seen more than one owner and some wiring "fixes".

thank you. I was thinking resistor wire and possible starter switch.
