Okay so I have been toying the idea of putting a diesel engine in my 1977 f250 camper special ranger 2wd, but I cannot find any links on it being done on a 2wd. Has anyone tried or know someone who has? And If so please I would love to hear all about it.
Weight wise, how does it compare to a big block or a mod motor?
Gotta love Google... Looking like about 750 lbs. for the 4BT and 500 lbs. for a cast iron 4.6L. Stock HP ratings are a huge difference, but the torque is about the same. So the new question is what is the upgradabliity of the 4BT. This could make a badass 2wd F100 short bed street truck project.
You can upgrade to a bigger Turbo, turn the pump up and upgrade the injectors and surpass the torque of a mild 460.. when looking at a diesel its ALL about the torque, don't let those meek HP #'s scare you!

I have a spare 78' shortbed regular cab body and frame. Plan for it was a CV swap, 4 link/coil over CV rear and an aluminum 4.6 with a carb setup. This is a future project. Now I am contemplating the choice of a 4BT instead of the 4.6.
