need help and information
260,000 miles, automatic transmission, lariat series model, with a lot of factory installed options.
I need help with the electronics going out. Specifically the lights in the cruise control buttons were blinking on & off as I was driving, but when I turned the steering wheel right about 10 degrees the lights in cruise control buttons were blinking on then went back off as I turned slight left to keep vehicle on road between the painted roadway lines. This continued about 3 or 4 days. I thought it was a loose wire or electronic connection! ?. Eventually the cruise control and brake lights stopped working and the airbag light now comes on and flashes 2 times then pauses, then the airbag light flashes 3 times, eventually it just stays on after driving for a few minutes. Also the dash left turn indicator light doesn't light up when I turn on the 4way emergency flasher button, but the dash left turn light does work and flash when left turn signal is activated.
I do pull 2 axle trailers and 3 axle trailers, sometimes 500 miles non stop. I need all lighting to operate properly. However I bought this vehicle as used from Waldorf Ford in Waldorf Maryland, and it showed over 100,000 miles when I got it, now has 260,000 miles. Cap on the back has been on there before I bought the truck, and the cap rear brake light does work correctly, but no vehicle brake lights or cruise control.
I am wondering if steering wheel replacement, part from a junk yard is a good option, i have never changed a steering column, and im not sure if it is some of the cause of the problem? Do you have any thoughts or reccommendations?
Thank you for any assistance or information you can give. Allen
Another area to be concerned with is grounds. They are very important in a negative ground system. Any vehicle (especially one from the North east) older than 5 years old likely could use a thorough check/cleaning of all the grounds you can find. Starting with the main battery cables down to the starter. Bad grounds can mask themselves as other components failing because the system is trying to seek a ground somewhere other then where it should be. Just sayin...
