Seller claims this 'small block' C6 was in his 1968 Mustang, but if it was, it was swapped in.
C6's were available in 1968 Mustang's, but only with 390's and 428's.
1979 was the first year that FoMoCo offered the C6 in cars with the 302.
1978 was the first year that FoMoCo offered the C6 with 300 I-6 in F100/250's & Econolines, 302 in F100/150's, 1979 E100/150 302.
Bell housing = M/T / Converter Housing = A/T .. but on a C6, the converter housing is made as part of the transmission case.
I can email him for info on the trans to see if he knows more about the trans like if it was swapped in, if so what did it come out of or what did he have it mated too.
Now im alittle confused with the last part.... mt=bell at=converter... i know he mentioned auto trans but the referes to it having a bell house.... im assuming he meant small convert housing instead of bell?
Bell is correct for engine fit. You will need a auto column, so you might want to think about a 73-79 power steering swap to make it complete.
John
I plan on addressing the power steering issue once im able to tear into the suspension. Want to swap the front end parts to a crown vic front eventually. Plans are focused on getting an auto trans swapped in. As far as an auto column, do you have any ideas where i can find one that doesnt cost an arm and a leg like these aftermarket companies lol

People that are unaware refer to all A/T's & M/T's as having a bell housing, but this in-correct.
A bell housing is only used with a M/T. With an A/T, it's called a converter housing.
Thats what i figured... so i assume since it has the small convert housing that i wont have an issue in mating it to my engine? I emailed him to see if he had more info on the trans. I found a c4 trans that was mated to the same motor as mine but out of an early 70s f100 but made an offer and all i got was i would think about it and i followed up but got nothing so figured i move on. I think he was trying to sell motor n trans as a whole but whatever.
So the guy emailed me back about the c6 and he doesnt know what motor it was mated to since the mustang had no motor just the trans. Also said the mustang was coded to originally have a c4. I asked him if he had any numbers off the trans to help pinpoint what the trans was originally mated to etc

TRANS code stamped on the Warranty Plate, ask the seller what it is.
TRANS ID tag (see below) located under one of the bolts that retains the servo cover to the case. But...by now, it could be missing.
So using good old google it appears from the website below that the trans maybe from a 70s f150 mated to a 351.... if im correct would this still be an option to match up to my 4.9l 300ci l6?
Scroll down to the 5th listing in 1979 E Series (Econoline) chart.
So knowing this should i go ahead and move forward with getting the trans? I read that the small block fords and l6 motors have the same housing bolt pattern and with this being a small housing trans it should match up...am i correct? Im sure there are things like a flex plate etc that will be needed to mate it to the motor....im just double/triple checking to makd sure ghe trans will work since i dont want to waste money etc plus its all new to me and i want to learn
