My vacuum pump went out a couple months ago when I was on the road a couple hours from home. I limped it to a nearby O'reilly's and they had one for $120 that came with the pulley so you don't have to pull yours off and re-use. It was 3 bolts I believe holding it on. Changed it out in less that 15 minutes in the parking lot. I would just do that if I were you. It really sucks when that pump quits. I luckily was only going 30mph when it happened to me...
When the one on the idi went I was en route for a brick wall to a store. Just stopped in time. When the one on this truck went I hit a dog and no brakes. I'm switching to hydroboost
Yep. When I rented a puller for the 3rd time I kept it. Make sure it is the same kit that will also pull the power steering pump pulley.
Learn from us and make sure the first time you rent one it is in good, keepable shape and tell them you won't be bringing it back so they can go ahead and order their replacement. And go ahead and get a spare pump.
My factory pump lasted about 140 miles. Two went out quickly after that, the third has lasted almost 20k so far...
