Okay guys, I replaced my old ignition with an HEI system, and after getting everything put together. It doesn't try to fire, and after you play with the timing it backfires through the exhaust. Also, it seems to be sitting crooked, is that normal? Any and all replies are appreciated. Need it fixed before the car show Friday though.
Why did you replace your old ignition system? Were you having problems there? I would differ with the term "upgrade" myself - the Duraspark design has some advantages from an engineering perspective - but regardless, what problem were you trying to solve by switching? Was it doing the same thing before?
"Sitting crooked" doesn't sound normal to me ... pics?
I just put one of these on my pick up. I wired it in with a 40 amp relay. That made it so I could run a bigger gauge wire to the dizzy and a bigger wire from the battery to the relay. Then used the wire that went to the old coil to turn on the relay. Worked great. Mine set into the intake manifold straight and didn't look crooked at all.
