Finding the Ignition wire
Also would like to know the best place to pick up manuals with the wiring diagrams.
Thanks for any help you can offer!
If you need a wire for start(cranking) only, the easiest place under the hood is the starter relay. I think on your vehicle it may be on the passenger side firewall. See if it has a red/lightblue wire. This wire should be hot only in crank mode.
For your other key-on stuff, it depends on how much you want to hook up. You might as well wire it up for lots of load, so the best way is to go buy a universal 30 amp foglamp relay.
Take a 10 gauge wire and run it from the battery + to a 30 amp fuse or circuit breaker. Then come out of the fuse or circuit breaker to the contacts on the relay. Come out of the relay to a small add-on fuse box. Fuse it according to what you are running.
To trigger the relay, hook one side of the coil to ground, and hook the other side of the coil to a hot in run wire under the hood. The beauty of using a relay is the circuit you use to trigger the relay will not be overloaded because the relay coil needs very little current to operate. You could use a wire from the EEC or PCM relay, or any other wire you find hot in run.
