I just changed the radiator hoses on my 1996 F350 with the 460. It has the factory oil cooler, so it has the two lower hoses. I can't believe what a pita the little elbow hose was to change.

I had to grease up the inside of the hoses, wouldn't work without doing that. I got it on there once before greasing it but couldn't make it go on all the way, that is when I tried silicone spray.

I had to take the fan and shroud off to get enough room to work but was eventually able to get it on by pinching both end of the hose together and pushing it between the two barbed ends the hose goes on and then pushing it around to make sure it was going on like it should. I had to twist it back and forth forever it seems to get it seated properly, but eventually got it. Much bigger job than I thought it was going to be, that's for sure.

 

You should have just ditched the cooler and put a regular radiator hose on it. The 460 coolers are prone to failure (they leak internally and mix your coolant and oil) and lots of guys run without them. I took the cooler off my 351 a couple years ago, no problems yet and I don't expect any either.

But yeah them lower hoses are a PITA to change. And expensive too.

 

That cooler is why my 95 has a new motor,glad it happened before I got it.

 

I agree to an extent and will most likely swap it out someday. I've read here that if you keep up with coolant changes they last pretty well. Not too sure if I'm keeping up as well as I should...

What I would like to do is get one of the Ford Racing 90* adapters but also use a sandwich adapter to be able to mount and air to oil cooler. Not going to happen this summer, but I tow with this thing a lot and I like having a cooler. Not sure if there's even enough room to do that, waiting for an answer on that thread where I asked about it.

 

Anyone know the length and diameter of each one of those hoses?

Hose Length (in):20.000

Lower hose between engine and cooler, I bought a Goodyear 61712
Hose Length (in):4.000
Hose End 1:1 11/16 in.
Hose End 2:1 13/16 in.

Lower hose between cooler and radiator, I bought a Goodyear 61589
Hose Length (in):15.000
Hose End 1:1 23/32 in.
Hose End 2:1 23/32 in.

I pulled those specs from the Summit web site

OMG... PIA for sure same problem here. I'm under a 1990 Class A trying to replace it too. I did notice the 2 different sized ends after fighting with it yesterday (wishing I hadn't cut the old hose off.) I'm replacing all hoses because one by one they have been blowing (heater hoses first) they look to be original... I see mention of the spring inside. Mine didn't have one and there's no way it would pinch enough with one in it to get it on. Just an FYI I've trimmed the inside corners of both ends a little to give it a little help squeezing it between the ends and give it a head start. Shouldn't leak... The band clamps will be further up away from the edges....
