Hi I have a 97 f150 2wd 4.2. my speedo is working on and off, my overdrive button is flashing and its shifting terrible. I changed the vss in the top of the rear diff but no luck... is there another sensor I should change? or go back and start looking at the wiring to the on in the diff. she has 353k on her and was running great till this.
its not throwing a cel, can I still get them? thanks
Not complete sure, but I think a trans code can be tripped without generating a CEL. The flashing OD button is signaling a trans fault.
to scan for codes you need to make sure the scanner is capable of reading transmission codes. Some of the Free scans at auto part stores may not , so ask before letting them try.
Check service bulletins for your truck. I remember some of the trucks had problems with the speedometer driven gear in the trans getting loose and causing erratic speedometer problems. Google technical service bulletins for your truck. Also, try to get an accurate code scan of the trans to see what code is there. If the od light is flashing there is a code. This may or may not fix both problems. Check the obvious things first, fluid level and condition.
