I have a 2000 Excursion. 7.3L and 2 wheel drive.

The sensor I believe is the same for the top of trans and the top of the rear differential.

My code is P0500.

Which one do I change. Thanks!

 

The reason I am asking is because:

1) The speed sensor from O'Reilleys was dirty like it was previously used and returned.

2) I replaced the speed sensor on top of the rear differential and the speedometer doesn't work leading me to believe I need to change the sensor on the transmission or I have a defective replacement part.

3) I previously had the same code (P0500) on a different truck (4wd 1999 F250 Super Duty) with no speedometer and I replaced rear diff sensor and it immediately fixed issue.

 

Do you have a Scan Tool to monitor the PID's? That will tell you which one is the problem circuit.

 

Speedo system is fed by the rear diff sensor. So is the cruise control, ABS, and some of the shift logic.
