Exclamation Speedo and Odometer Problems

I have a 2001 F-250 PSD with an automatic trans. and lately I have noticed with the colder weather when I start my truck up and drive my speedomoter will jump +/- 5mph for about 5 to 10 minutes before it quits.... Im not sure what is causing this. Last weekend I took the sensor off of the rear end and cleaned it thinking that it was dirty and could be causing the problem but it is still happening. Also another thing that I noticed is that when I am going on long trips down the expressway my odometer will cut out for about 75 miles.... On the truck there is a superlift truspeed Speedometer Recalibrator that hooked up for my bigger tires... Are there any sensors on the trans? If anyone could help me out I would appreciate it because I really dont know where to look....
Thanks, Derek

Only sensor for speed is on rear diff. I'd check wiring on your Superlift truspeed. When my VSS went out speedo dropped to zero and ABS light came on.

The overdrive light flashed about a few weeks ago but it never flashed again.

where is the CB hooked into?? mine is hooked right at the driver side battery..I would say the VSS is shot..do you have a way to check for codes?? the flashing OD light will store a code...it is also possibly a short under the steering column..

I have my CB hooked into the radio. I also have a Snapon code scanner. I will plug it in and check for any codes when I get out of class. Will it cause any of the warning lights on my dash to come on like the "check engine" light?

I also have an engine question for you. You seem like you really know your stuff about these trucks. Have you ever ran across anyone having a problem with an oil leak on the back of the engine. Mine is leaking somewhere approximate to where the turbo is I believe. I don't think that it is the main seal at least I hope not. It runs down both sides of the engine and drips off of the black metal plate behind the oil pan... I really appreciate your help...

Now when I go to scan the codes do i plug the OBII scanner in the port inside of the cab? Because on my 96 bronco there was another one under the hood for the ABS and Drivetrain Sensors.

look around in the valley of the motor..there is a few things that can leak oil or fuel and will flow to the back of the valley where there is 2 drain holes for it to leak out then down around the trans making you think its the rear seal..it might take some cleaning up down in there to find it..the OBII is under the dash to the right of the steering column..right about where your knee will be..its a little black plug with a cover on it..

awesome thanks again for your help... I prefer to fix things myself rather than take them in. Saves money and I gain experience.

its pretty much stock... I could use some suggestions... I would like to do some performance mods to it... If you have any suggestion just let me know. Here are some pictures of my truck http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2696706 . I took some new pictures this weekend and I will update my page. this past weekend I put some lights in my bed because with the toneau cover its hard to find things in there at night and I tied them into my interior lights so they don't get left on.
