Hey all got a diesel leak on ip pump. Also causing it to catch some air.
Trucks an 85 f250 6.9
It appears to be leaking off the bottom of the rear. Where all the injector lines go on. This ip hasn been on here maybe 5 months? I know i tightened the **** outa those lines. Just randomly started surging and dying. Its not a bad leak i just want to fix it. Any ideas?
Throttle shaft looks good, servo also looks dry.
Update;
Tore the ip off and brought it to the work bench. It looks like the timing advance rod hole may be leaking a little. But the main area where i get fuel is on the 8 lines on the back. Mainly on the lower four. The seals for the main line coming in have been changed so its not that.
I read some have weep holes that can leak? Where are these holes at? I noticed it has a hole next to where each line screws on. These could possibly be leaking. Besides the air issue the truck runs fine. Ips turned up quite a bit and it still runs fine, rolls smoke like it always did.
Think its time for new ip? I do have a couple mystery ip's in a bucket somewhere.
And my current ip is a turbo ip if that helps any.
When you replaced the pump did you replace the olives? And don't tighten the **** out of them. You do that and that can cause a leak or can be a peta when you go to remove them. Also your crushing the olive instead of letting it seat and seal properly.
I found it!
The adapter that goes from the fuel line to the injector pump on the inlet side was leaking.
Where it met the injector pump it had a chinxy little oring from the po of the ip.
Grabbed an adapter from one o my parts pumps and it had the right olive on it. Took your advice and snugged everything down and bam no leak while running.
Still looses prime but thats because the inspection plate for the max fuel screw. It has a stripped bolt. Had it off several times trying to find the sweet spot.
Will try and retap this weekend. Thinking coarse bolt top and bottom. These little fine one strip out like nothing else when you use them alot lol.
Thanks for the help, ps i did replace the two olives on the fuel inlet line but i want to get some more to keep around. Went through ford dealer. Was a pita...anyone have any links to an online source? I want to change the one at the adapter, return line, and fuel inlet to filter housing. And a few spare would never hurt lol.
Good to hear, as myself would like to know myself on the olives. Tho I think it was posted to what size it was in another post around here. But yeah. I will be doing my IP pump this weekend. I will be doing the same.
If all else fails the local auto parts store can order me a injection install kit. Its a special order through ups. Kits like 8 bucks. It comes with like 3 olives, o ring for front of ip to timing cover, and a couple other rings i think?
If you want to go that route te part number is,
7135-275 brand is delphi
I'll probably just order two of these since i can't find them seperately except through the deal. Plus return is a smaller size, fuel to filter housing is too.
I'll double check my parts kit... I bought 2 from O'Reily auto parts. I'll post kit number in a few. But Jason from IDI performance recommend that install kit. Comes with fuel line bunch of orings clamps the injector caps and 8 copper washers for injectors. Not cheap as I paid 50 a piece with military discount. But yeah a spare kit is always handy
just go down to either your local International or Ford truck dealer, they'll usually have all three sizes in stock, 1/4", 5/16" and 3/8". You'll need two 5/16" olives for the line going to the back of the IP, and one 3/8" olive coming from the fuel pump going into the filter head. You should have the barbed tee return fitting at the back of the engine on the driver's side, if not then you'll need another 3/8"" olive.
