Citgo oil

Anyone ever used or know anything about Citgo oil rated at SJ & SL? One of the local stores has it on sale with a good rebate. It is certifed by the nat petroleum institute.

SJ stock would be the old spec and I would suspect that it is old stock they are trying to get rid of. The SL rated Citgo oils will cross reference with Phillips 66 oils.

Flash, Avanti, what an ironic post. My wife came home last week with some Citgo Superguard oil (10w30) from our local "Dollar Tree" bargain store. It was rated a "SL" oil, with the SAE starbust certification. My daughter asked if I would change the oil and filter in her 220,000+ mile Honda CRX-SI that she absolutely drives the wheels off of, to school and work with the Citgo oil. I used to use Phillips 66 Trop Artic oil a lot a few years ago. It was available at Target for around $1.09 a quart. Their synthetic 10w30 was $2.95 a quart. However, I can't find it anywhere here on the west coast anymore. Did Phillips 66 merge with another oil company? Possibly, I'll be the first to admit my ignorance on this, without researching my thoughts here. I just always felt Phillips 66 Trop Artic oil was a quality lubricant at a very affordable price. ED

ED, Phillips was acquired by Conoco and is now ConocoPhillips. ConocoPhillips also acquired Unocal brand downstream manufacturing from Tosco. Citgo acquired Unocal's solvent manufacturing business.
